Ford F-150 Vs. The Competition

Ford F-150 Vs. The Competition

It's no secret here in Iowa that the Ford F-150 is the most popular pickup in America and that's been true for more than 47 years in a row. The F-150 outpaces worthy competitors like the Chevy Silverado and the Ram 1500 with more overall capability. We're a local family owned car dealership in Eastern Iowa and we have a great deal of confidence in our new Ford F-150 pickups. Here's how the F-150 compares to its biggest rivals and why it's a truck you'll want to test drive at Junge Automotive Group in Cedar Rapids and North Liberty, IA.

A comparison of powertrains

The F-150 gives Iowa City buyers more powertrain options than the Chevy Silverado. Ford has a lineup that includes four V6 engines including a twin-turbo V6 and a hybrid V6, as well as a V8 engine, giving you a total of five choices. The Chevy Silverado only offers four powertrains including a turbocharged inline-four, two V8s and a turbo-diesel.

The 2024 Ram 1500 has the same number of powertrain options as the F-150 including a 5.7-liter HEMI® V8. But the 2025 Ram 1500 no longer offers a V8 and has dropped back to two less powerful V6 engines. So the Ford F-150 beats both the Chevy Silverado and the Ram 1500 in terms of powertrain options.

A comparison of towing and payload

The Ford F-150 wins this very important competition against its two top competitors. In fact, the F-150 has the best towing and hauling capability in its class. The new Ford F-150 can tow 13,500 pounds compared with the Chevy Silverado 1500 at 13,300 pounds and the Ram 1500 with only 12,750 pounds of maximum towing for 2024 models and 11,580 pounds for 2025 versions.

The F-150 also takes the lead when it comes to payload capability. The F-150 can give you 3,325 pounds of maximum payload vs. only 2,300 pounds of payload for the Ram 1500 and 2,310 pounds for the Chevy Silverado 1500. The Ford F-150 comes out ahead of both the Ram 1500 and the Chevy Silverado 1500 which is why it's so popular with truck buyers in Marion.

A comparison of features

The Ford F-150 has features that are more helpful than the other two pickups. For example, the F-150 offers Iowa buyers a class-exclusive 7.2-kilowatt Pro Power Onboard system that gives you a mobile generator. Chevy and Ram competitors can't equal the Ford F-150's handy Interior Work Surface and Tailgate Work Surface. The new Ford F-150 also gives you BoxLinkâ„¢, a system that lets you secure your cargo, along with LED tailgate lighting, cargo cleats, 400-watt outlets and built-in clamp pockets.

The Chevy Silverado 1500 does have a practical multi-flex tailgate but it doesn't offer the interior and exterior work surfaces that are available in the F-150. The Ram 1500 has a RamBox® Cargo Management system but it isn't better than the Ford F-150's BoxLink™ feature. The Ram 1500 has a multi-function tailgate but it only has a 150-volt auxiliary outlet. So while all three pickups have some helpful features, the Ford F-150 gives you a higher level of utility and value.

A comparison of technology

Ford's SYNC®4 technology allows the F-150 to once again come out ahead of the Chevy Silverado 1500 and the Ram 1500. Ford's Dynamic Hitch Assist and standard rearview camera make it easier to connect the Ford F-150 to your trailer. The Chevy Silverado 1500 also has an advanced trailering system but doesn't offer hill-start assist. The Ram 1500 has hill-start assist but doesn't a hands-free towing feature like the F-150. We invite you to test drive the F-150, America's most popular pickup, at Junge Automotive Group in Cedar Rapids and North Liberty, IA.
