The sDrive30i and xDrive30i models features the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (248 horsepower, 258 pound-feet of torque) matched with an eight-speed shiftable automatic transmission. The main difference between the two is that sDrive models are rear-wheel drive and xDrive models are all-wheel drive.

The M40i is set in motion by a more powerful turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine rated at 355 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.
