Owning a vehicle means you’ll have to ensure it’s always in top condition. You can do so by performing preventive maintenance. Here are some of the basic routine automotive maintenance tasks:

Tire Maintenance

There are many ways to care for your car’s tires. One of which includes a simple walkaround inspection to see if any of them has deflated. For more modern vehicles, check the TPMS or tire pressure monitoring system, which lights up on the dash if one or more tires have decreased air volume. For precise assessments, you can purchase a tire pressure gauge to check how much air volume is in each tire.

Be sure to have your vehicle’s tires rotated every 5,000 to 10,000 miles to prevent blowouts. Also, check their treads because when they are worn down, they will have less traction on the road and will need to be replaced.

Oil Change

Changing your vehicle’s oil is another easy and impactful way to care for your car. Motor oil helps lubricate and clean the internal parts of your engine. Replacing this fluid and the oil filter every 3,000 to 5,000 miles ensures clean oil circulating within the engine.

It’s easy to check your car’s oil. Just find the dipstick that protrudes from the engine. It is usually labeled, but be sure to check your car’s manual to determine its exact location. Pull it out, and look at the film of oil covering it. That will indicate the amount of oil left within the engine.

Battery Inspection

Be sure to check your car battery. A simple visual inspection will help you find out if any corrosion exists on its terminals or wires. You’ll also be able to determine if the battery is securely held in place or if there are any cracks on its casing. Make sure to have the voltage tested at an auto parts store, too.

If any of these problems are found, do not hesitate to have your car battery replaced immediately. A professional inspection may even reveal even more information about your car’s battery. Car technicians have the necessary tools to safely replace and dispose of your old battery too.
